I was in SLO a couple weeks ago, before I finished reading The Catcher In The Rye, and I stumbled upon a homeless man begging for change, as usual. However, this man stood out to me. He was a big and his hygiene was not great but this wasn't what stood out, it was his attitude. I was going to give him at least a dollar or so just to help out but when I began to approach near him he told another person walking by, "Come on, would you help a fat and ugly man like me out." Right that moment I did not have any respect towards this man, I didn't respect the fact of how he saw himself and that he didn't do anything to change it. He was one of those people who puts themselves down and believed everything negative without trying to change the outcome. It began to remind me of Holden, and I questioned "Will Holden end up like this man towards the end of the novel?"
